Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to replace patio chair slings in Tucson?

Typically $85 to $120 per dining or arm chair, $100 to $115 per recliner, $105 to $160 per chaise lounge and $70 to $80 per ottoman, fabric and labor included.

How much does restrapping cost?

Typically $80 to $95 per chair, $90 to $115 per recliner, $110 to $145 per chaise and $50 to $65 per ottoman. Cross-weave and basket-weave patterns run about 25 to 45 percent more.

How much is powder coating?

About $75 to $95 per chair, $100 to $125 per chaise or loveseat, $100 to $105 per barstool and $170 to $190 per table, plus stripping where the old finish has to come off: about $25 to $100 a chair and $135 to $300 a table.

Which jobs are done at my house?

Vinyl strap restrapping, swivel and rocker parts and glides can usually be done on your patio. Slings, powder coat and welding are shop work, so we pick up the frames and bring them back.

How do I tell slings from straps?

A sling is one panel of mesh fabric held in channels on each side of the seat. Straps are individual flat vinyl bands wrapped around the frame. Lace is narrow vinyl cord woven in a pattern. A photo settles it.

Which sling fabric is best for Tucson sun?

The common sling fabrics, Phifertex, Textilene and Batyline, are all PVC-coated polyester mesh. For a seat in full afternoon sun we lean toward the heavier weights, such as Phifertex Plus or a heavy-duty Textilene. Cost guides put standard sling mesh at about five to seven years and premium fabric at seven to ten or more.

Why do my vinyl straps keep cracking?

UV and heat drive the plasticizers out of the vinyl, so it stiffens and cracks. Sunscreen with PABA, chlorine and harsh cleaners speed it up. Rinse straps with mild soap and water, use a vinyl protectant, and put a towel down if you sit out in sunscreen.

My frame has white bubbles under the paint. What is that?

On aluminum it is usually filiform corrosion: moisture got under the coating at a chip, scratch or drilled hole and spread underneath. The fix is to strip back to clean metal and recoat. Painting over it just moves the problem.

Is it worth fixing old aluminum patio furniture?

If the frame is heavy and sound, nearly always. Winston, Tropitone and Homecrest each warrant aluminum frames for 15 years residential, which tells you the frame is meant to outlast several sets of fabric. Light, bent or corroded-through frames are the exception.

My furniture is only a few years old. Should I call the maker first?

Yes. Tropitone and Winston each state five years on vinyl straps against breakage and five years on the finish for residential use. Most warranties exclude sunscreen damage, normal fading and weather, and require you to have followed the care instructions.

Are you an authorized service center for any brand?

No. We are independent and repair every brand out of warranty. We are not a dealer, authorized service center or warranty provider for any maker.

How long does it take?

It depends on the job and the season. Phoenix shops publish minimum lead times of about four weeks for slings and straps and eight weeks for frame restoration in their busy periods. We give you a date for your pieces when we quote.

Do you work outside Tucson?

Yes: Oro Valley, Marana, the Catalina Foothills, Green Valley, Sahuarita and SaddleBrooke. Farther towns may carry a trip charge, listed on the quote.

Can you match the color of my old straps?

Usually close. Strap suppliers carry around 50 colors, and sling fabric comes in many more. If an old color is discontinued we show you the nearest options first.

Can I just do it myself?

Often, yes. Ready-made slings run about $30 to $70 in standard mesh, and strap comes by the roll. The hard parts are measuring correctly, getting sling tension, and fitting hot vinyl before it cools. Seized rail bolts are where most DIY jobs stall.

My swivel rocker squeaks. Do I need a repair?

Try silicone spray on the moving parts first; Tropitone recommends it to minimize squeaks. If the squeak or a lean comes back, a spring plate or bushing is worn, typically a $75 to $160 repair.
